My father says he has nothing interesting to tell. What do I do?
Everyone says that, and no one is right. That's exactly why we don't ask “tell us about your life” — we ask where he was during the Ice Storm, what his first job was, how he met your mother. The answers come on their own. Our job is to ask the right questions and to listen.
She's shy in front of a camera.
Almost everyone is, for about five minutes. Then you forget the camera, because you're talking to a person, not a lens. The studio looks like a living room, not a television set. And a family member can stay in the room.
How long does it take?
Plan on two hours on site: the welcome, the interview of about an hour, and time to breathe afterwards. The edited film runs about 45 minutes.
Who is in front of the camera, and who pays?
Anyone. Often, children or grandchildren give the interview to a parent. Sometimes the person decides for themselves. Payment and booking can be made by someone other than the storyteller.
What if she doesn't speak English or French?
Interviews are conducted in French or English. For another language, write to us — depending on the language, we can often arrange it.
Is the studio accessible?
Yes, fully: step-free or with an elevator, walking distance from public transit, with a drop-off spot and an accessible washroom. If you have a particular need, tell us when you book.
What exactly do I receive?
A private link to watch the film, the high-definition video file to download, and a USB key by mail. The film is yours; copy it and share it as much as you like.
What is the publication option?
If the storyteller wishes, their film can be published on the Méromie channel, where everyone's stories come together. It's free, optional, and decided in writing on the day of the interview, by the storyteller themselves. They can also change their mind later.
What if we have to cancel?
With 48 hours' notice, we move the interview at no charge. In case of illness, hospitalization or death, we reschedule or refund the deposit, no questions asked. Under 48 hours without a health reason, the deposit is kept, because the slot can no longer be offered to someone else.
When can I book?
Right now, for interviews starting January 19, 2027. A gift certificate lets you give the interview today and choose the date later.
